Civil Litigation

As opposed to criminal law, which seeks criminal sanctions, it is generally a legal dispute between two or more parties (individuals and/or corporations) that seeks monetary compensation or some other court-ordered relief. For example, if employees are terminated from their jobs, they may seek damages against their former employers for notice and/or severance. A corporation or organization which is owed money from another party may seek damages for breach of contract. These are civil litigation cases.
